December 5th meeting

It is really exciting to see team members taking on new responsibilities! Aidan is now managing the drivers' schedule for the meets and Maya has taken on the job of photography. Isaac and Curran have both stepped up to work on the Engineering Notebook (an important piece we always seem to leave to the end. Mason, Curran and Phil worked through last week's meet (November 28th) to wire up the 2nd robot. Arthur and Beck are continuing to work on the programming of the 2nd robot. The robot can now move during autonomous mode and the sweeper can sweep! All the students are stepping up to the plate and taking on new responsibilities to help the team be successful at the meets.

The meeting started off with a discussion of the engineering notebook and how we want to structure it. We came up with a general outline for stories from the design group and from the mechanics group.

We then talked about the design of the arm and how it didn't accomplish our goal (set in September) of attaching to the Mars Rover on the official game field. The team continued working on the 2nd robot. A decision was made to remove the non-functioning arm and replace it with an arm that will telescope up to reach the handle on the "rover" in the center of the game field. The team's original game plan involved earning points by attaching to this handle and pulling the robot up. The plans for the future arm involve building a telescoping arm that will move up, grab the handle and then pull the entire robot up off the floor.
